Doug Westphal
Doug Westphal is chief engineer for BAE’s System of Systems
Engineering and Integration Strategic Initiative providing technical
leadership and management. He leads development of Systems and
Systems of Systems Engineering capabilities (processes, tools,
and training) for BAE’s work force and programs. Mr. Westphal
chairs BAE's North America Joint Systems Engineering Working
Group. He also supports proposal development and program execution.
Previously, he was a Lieutenant Colonel with over 21 years of
service in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Westphal’s assignments
included deputy director, Engineering Group, at the National
Reconnaissance Office (NRO) as well as chief architect developing
the NRO’s Integrated Architecture. He was a member of the
National Security Space Architect’s Mission Information
Management Architecture team. Mr. Westphal also was a principle
contributor to the National Security Space Operations Concept
and author of the operational concept used for the National Security
Space Game.
He served as chief, Space Systems Section, 50th Space Wing, Schriever
AFB, where he led efforts to modernize satellite command and
control. Mr. Westphal was chief Air Force satellite control network
integrator for the Satellite Control, Data Handling Program Office,
Los Angeles AFB, where he provided technical leadership and systems
engineering and integration for Air Force satellite control network.
He is also an experienced program manager and test director.
Mr. Westphal received his master's degree in space systems management
and his BS in aerospace engineering. He is a graduate of Air
Command and Staff and Air War College. Mr. Westphal is a Level
III certified NRO System Engineer and holds Level III certifications
in Program Management, and Systems Planning, Research, Development
and Engineering from the U.S. Air Force.
