Paul Germeraad, PhD
Paul Germeraad, PhD, is president of Intellectual Assets, Inc.
He provides guidance in the development of leading edge IP assessment
tools, ensuring clients create and obtain maximum value from their
intellectual property. Dr. Germeraad was previously chief operating
officer for Aurigin Systems, Inc. While there, he focused on the
commercialization of the company's intellectual asset management
software for the competitive intelligence, licensing, and R&D
communities.
He served as vice president, corporate research, at Avery Dennison,
directing its corporate research center. Previously, Dr. Germeraad
was director of James River Corporation's flexible packaging technical
center. Prior to that, he held R&D and management positions at
Raychem Corporation.
Dr. Germeraad is past chairman of the board of the Industrial
Research Institute, an association of chief technology officers
whose organizations account for over 70% of all U.S. industrial
R&D spending. He served as a trustee and vice president of education
of the Licensing Executive Society (U.S.A. and Canada), Inc. With
over 6,000 members, LES is involved in the transfer, use, development,
manufacture, and marketing of intellectual property. He also developed
and taught their Professional Development Series.
Dr. Germeraad holds 10 U.S. patents and 12 foreign counterparts.
He is a contributing author to two books, and has authored over
a dozen refereed articles.
Dr. Germeraad's articles include "IP Tactics in Support of the
Business Strategy," les Nouvelles, and "The Changing Role
of R&D," Research Technology Management. He's been a speaker
for the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP).
Dr. Germeraad holds a PhD in chemistry from the University of
California, Irvine, and an LLB degree from La Salle University
in Chicago. He received his BA in chemistry from the University
of California, San Diego.
